Lisa Poppleton

Trekking in Nepal changed the focus of Lisa’s life dramatically. A French and German major in college, she had spent nearly three years living in various European countries, relishing the history, culture and personal interactions within that diverse continent. Upon setting foot in Asia and discovering fascinating new realms to explore, her international focus shifted eastward, where it has remained over the past two decades.

Born in the Midwest, the lure of skiing brought Lisa to Salt Lake City and the University of Utah. Apart from graduate school at University of California-Berkeley and her European sojourns, she has dwelled ever since at the convergence of the Rocky Mountains with the Great Basin. Lisa has worked nearly ten years – full-time and part-time – in the adventure travel industry. Five of these years were devoted to itinerary development, marketing, and copy writing specifically for tours to Asia.  Ever dedicated to the arts and education, she has also served as a nonprofit administrator for the local symphony and opera company, an independent school, and an historic preservation organization.  Lisa has taught German and French at the high school and college levels, and spent a year teaching American language, history and culture at a secondary school in Germany through the Fulbright Program.

Lisa engages daily with Asian culture through ongoing classes in Tai Chi Chu’an, yoga, meditation, and events at the local Tibetan Buddhist temple.  At home, she enjoys tea tasting in a prized set of ceramic cups purchased in Korea, while reading travel literature and Eastern philosophy and spirituality.  She looks forward to sharing her wonder and exploration of this amazing continent with Asia Insider readers.  Namaste!
