Mandy Bartok
Mandy Bartok lived in one place for the first 18 years of her life; however, since leaving home a decade ago, she has logged at least 9 major moves around the globe. After stints in Ireland, France, and on both coasts of the US, Mandy found herself Asia-bound when the military reassigned her husband to a post in Tokyo.
Armed with a Masters in Teaching French, Mandy was originally looking forward to educating unsuspecting Japanese students how to “parler francais” with the best of them. Now currently residing on the subtropical Japanese island of Okinawa, however (where French instructors are in no great demand), Mandy has abandoned her original plans for full-time teaching and embraced the chance to travel around this large and varied continent.
Mandy’s writing has previously appeared in the travel sections of both The Japan Times and Tokyo’s Metropolis magazine, as well as several online forums. In writing for The Asia Insider, she hopes to bring an on-the-ground perspective to the site’s travel-savvy readers.
Despite all of her globetrotting, Mandy has yet to catch Carmen Sandiego.
